CIRCULAR/GS/2013/16

CIRCULAR/GS/2013/16                                                                              21st June 2013

TO ALL OFFICERS

NATURE’S FURY AT ITS WORST

We are extremely shocked over the devastation and calamity wreaked on thousands of pilgrims in Uttarkhand. The worst ever devastation faced in this part of the country came in the form of cloud burst and floods. Thousands of our brothers and sisters were washed away and the real horror lies in the fact that several thousands of devotees including those from other parts of the country who were undertaking pilgrimages are standard/still reported missing and unaccounted for.

Relief measures are pouring in from different parts of the country to the affected areas. We are also receiving lot of queries from our members throughout the country about their whole hearted desire to help those who are in distress.

Our Prime Minister has also appealed to the entire nation to “Strengthen the hands of our Government in dealing with this tragedy and donate generously to the PMNRF”. As a first of in this direction IT HAS BEEN DECIDED BY OUR FEDERATION that all our members should donate one day’s salary for donation to the PMNRF/by encashing one day privilege leave for donation to the PMNRF as provided for under Reg 44 of Central Bank of India Officers’ Service Regulation 1979.

In this regard, we had already informed our Chairman and Managing Director about our duty to stand with our distressed brothers and sisters and we are expecting circular shortly from our corporate office in this regard. We are sure our appeal will meet with 100% response from our members throughout the country.
There is little doubt that the present Himalayan disaster has been triggered by natural events, but the catastrophe is man-made like unprecedented deforestation and expanding Human settlements. The road ahead is that there needs to be an integrated policy on Himalayan environment and development. Such policy should be strictly implemented to avoid such type of catastrophe where the NATURE AVENGES ITS EXPLOITATION.
Our Units at Agra have also undertaken various relief measures through collection of clothes/medicines etc to reach those affected.

Yours sincerely,
(A R SAIFULLAH)
GENERAL SECRETARY.
